 FARM LESSON:

GRAFTING (Definition, Process and Advantages of Grafting): (a). WHAT IS GRAFTING? Grafting is the practice of taking the upper part of a plant and attaching it to the root system of another plant in order to be grown as a single plant. Thread: 1/5

(b). THE PROCESS OF GRAFTING (STEPS TAKEN DURING GRAFTING): 

1. Prune the rootstock. 
2.Trim the lower and upper ends of the scion. 
3. Make a slash-cut at the bottom of your scion. 
4. Carefully line-up the slash-cut of the scion with the rootstock 
5. Seal up the graft.



CONT'N OF THE STEPS TAKEN DURING GRAFTING: 

6. Add some grafting wax or sealing compound to the end of the scion to protect it from drying out. Allow your new graft to heal.



(c). ADVANTAGES OF GRAFTING FRUIT TREES: 

1. Provides resistance to soil borne diseases and pests. 
2. It promotes relatively fast growth and early flowering and fruiting in plants. 
3. Improves the quality of fruits. 
4. Increases the yield.





CONT'N OF THE ADVANTAGES OF GRAFTING FRUIT TREES: 

5. It can be used to produce varieties of seedless fruits. 
6. Grafting allows us to preserve and extend the life of valuable fruiting trees.
